Perhaps you saw Jack Flemming’s Hot Property article, which appeared in the Los Angeles Times last month, “California had 77 of the country’s 100 most expensive ZIP Codes for home sales last year, report says.” The article discusses the annual PropertyShark report, which lists cities by median price, including “all residential transactions closed in 2017, taking into account condo, co-ops, single- and two-family homes.” The median, while offering an interesting overview, provides little suggestion of the tremendous range of prices in an area.

According to the 2017 report, the country’s highest median was $4,950,000 in Atherton (San Mateo County), California. Beverly Hills appears on the list twice: ZIP 90210 is ranked #5 at a median of $3,850,000, and ZIP 90212 is ranked #40 with a median price of $2,060,000. Santa Monica 90402 is #6 and 90405 is #77. Other Southern California communities/ZIP Codes include Newport Coast, Newport Beach (92660, 92661, 92662, 92663), Santa Barbara, Los Angeles (90272, 90077, 90049, 90036, 90048), Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, San Marino, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Beach, Venice, Sunset Beach (Orange County), La Canada Flintridge, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Hermosa Beach, Duarte, Encino, and Coronado.

With California claiming 77 of the top 100 ZIP Codes nationwide, prices are inching upward from previous years and demand continues as sellers seek to maximize profits and buyers vie to claim an address in our ever-desirable region.
